(After you click on the link there is a brief period of darkness. You’re wondering if the video is just taking forever to buffer over this dead ten second span. Just as you go to click reload for the page, you hear piano. That piano continues to play on, keeping you interested before you realize the tune being played is ‘Freebird’ by Lynard Skynard. You sit back and relax once you see ‘Phoenix Wrestling presents…’ in cursive white font pop up. It’s followed by ‘Phoenix News Report #1’, which stays on the screen for several seconds until the whole image dissolves into a shot of the hi-tech looking Phoenix Wrestling studio. Oh the wonders of green screen and a good graphics guy. Standing front and center is a face some of the older fans will recognize, while some of the newer look at like “Who’s this Ed Norton looking dork?” That dork is a former analyst, GM, ambassador, and spokesperson for Phoenix Wrestling. None other than Skip Sanders, smiling wide at the thought of being able to pay his rent without selling drugs.)
Sanders: What’s up Phoenix fans? Glad you took the time out to check out the Phoenix News Report special for the month of June. For those of you who don’t recognize this handsome face, I’m Skip Sanders, and I’ve done just about all one can do in Phoenix backstage with the exception of running the company. That said, I’m happy to return to my home here in Phoenix, and give you good fans the scoop on what’s going on in Phoenix.
(Skip turns to another camera, and as he does a picture of Elena DeDraca screaming pops up next to his head.)
Sanders: First off I’d like to issue a congratulations on behalf of Phoenix Wrestling to our new Rising Phoenix champion, Elena DeDraca. At Redemption 108 Elena and Anastasia fought hard all the way to the ten minute mark. While most titles would allow the champion to keep their belt after time expiry, the Rising Phoenix championship is no ordinary title. Elena beat the ten minute mark and now finds herself as champion. At Redemption 109 she gets a chance to prove her win was not a fluke as she faces the former champion Anastasia Starling in the main event. That’s sure to be a must see match!
(Elena’s face changes to that of the Youtube logo with ‘CONTROVERSY?’ stamped over it.)
Sanders: Even better, you get to watch that match, along with four other matches on a much better, much less controlled streaming service, Dailymotion. Recently YouTube has been cutting down on ad revenue for pro wrestling companies, leaving many companies to leave the streaming service and look to other avenues. Phoenix is now added to that list, as was issued in a press conference this morning.
(Cut away to a shot of Slaine Rodrick up at a podium overlooking a wave of flashes and sea of microphones over a dark blue background.)
Rodrick: If YouTube wants to disrespect pro wrestling, I will have no part of that company anymore. Fact of the matter is there are tons of streaming video services nowadays. Many that are more than willing to give pro wrestling a proud home to show their content. I think the straw that broke the camel’s back was when they refused to show the Duos Titles triple threat match at Tempest, stating it was ‘too violent’ to broadcast. Which is absolutely ridiculous, but that’s fine. They’ve motivated us to move to greener pastures, so Dailymotion here we come.
Random reporter: Why aren’t you trying to make money by being on a pay streaming service like most other wrestling companies nowadays?
Rodrick: Because we make a good amount on ticket sales and merchandise. I’m not a greedy man. I know that wrestling fans, especially if they were like me growing up, will go for the cheapest, easiest method of viewing the promotion they want to see. Pay services are a joke nowadays, as anyone with the slightest bit of internet savvy can view anything they want for free. I figure why make them go to some ad bomb site where they can view a bad video with buffering problems? I’d rather give them a good, clean stream they can link to their friends. Wrestling should be accessible, that’s the only way to get new fans. Thank you Dailymotion for providing that.
(The scene switches back to the studio, and the box by Skip’s head now shows the Dailymotion logo.)
Sanders: Redemption 109 will be the first show broadcast under Dailymotion. I for one am happy to have our service shown on a popular format like Dailymotion.
(The box changes to a split screen of Aurora and Anastasia Starling. Aurora with ‘USA’ under her name, and Anastasia with ‘POLAND’ under her name.)
Sanders: Two of the most talented competitors ever to set foot in Phoenix are currently competing outside of Phoenix in the WCS World Cup. Top talent all over the world are representing their home countries. It really speaks volumes about PW’s talent that two of our own were chosen as the faces of their respective countries. That said, Aurora has aspirations to win this event and has decided to take the next Redemption off to focus on winning that World Cup. Best of luck to one of the most decorated we have.
(Both faces dissolve, and a screaming Veronica Valiant replaces them.)
Sanders: Another woman who is taking the next Redemption off is Veronica Valiant, who was livid with having to be put in a match teaming with Hell is Waiting. At Redemption 108 she walked out on her partners, and is deciding to sit this show out due to frustration. She is rumored however to still be attending the show so she can speak to Seth Black. Hopefully both parties reach a peaceful resolution.
(Cut to the face of Simon K. Parrish, a man who had recently signed a PW developmental contract.)
Sanders: While many were anticipating the debut of Simon K. Parrish, he was unfortunately unable to work out his visa issues, and unfortunately will not be appearing for PW. But where one star falls, another emerges.
(Simon’s face transitions to a white question mark on a black background.)
Sanders: A very strange promo aired midway through Redemption 108. It was cryptic yet quite alluring, ending with ‘par Aurora’. This led many to wonder who might this incoming star be, and what beef does she have with Aurora? Stay tuned for updates on this mysterious new signing.
(The question mark dissolves, showing a picture of Mason Daniels biting his barbwire bat with crazy look on his face.)
Sanders: At Redemption 108 Mason tried to test the waters and he quickly found himself in the deep end. After an attack of Finn Whelan, Frisky D., and Malik Demitrious, Seth Black finally dropped the hammer on Mason Daniels and suspended him. Now let’s get a word from Seth Black on the situation.
(Fullscreen cut away to Seth Black standing in front of brick wall with a camera light on him that is obnoxiously bright.)
Black: If I had my way with Mason Daniels, I’d fire him right away. But due to his tenure and loyalty to the company, Slaine has decided to give him a second chance. He’ll serve a 45 day suspension without pay. I want to give him some time to think about messing with me again. If he’s smart he’ll do what he can to keep his job.
(Cut back to Sanders shaking his head in the studio.)
Sanders: Mason has one last chance, he better not screw it up. Now we head over to Veronika Rodrick for the PW Sidelines Report.
(The camera wildly pans over to the right, where Veronika stands in front of a green screen with a bunch of beaten up wrestlers sitting on a bench and looking down at the ground. ‘Vice President’ is titled under her name for five seconds, then fades away.)
Veronika: It’s always unfortunate to announce injuries, but they are a part of the game that we must accept. Here is a rundown list of the injuries.
(A side panel slice pops up beside Veronika on the green screen, showing a list of all the injuries.)
FRISKY D.
-Injured for one to two shows with a lacerated neck
CHRIS ANDREW
-Minor tear to MCL. Prognosis for return is fall.
ONI KAMIGAWA
-Unidentified back injury, but not major. Prognosis for return is fall.
FIN-NISHER
-Concussion. 30 day no compete.
LEONICIO DE SOTO
-Torn rotator cuff. Prognosis for return is 1-2 months.
(She continues talking as the screen lingers to her left.)
Veronika: With good luck and a speedy recovery, we should have Frisky D. back for our next big show. Rumor has it she’s dead set on getting her revenge against Mason Daniels, who is cleared to return for that big show. Chris Andrew and Oni Kamigawa however will be out much longer, which doles a hit out to both the Rising Phoenix division and the Duos division. However just as two goes out, one comes in. Leonicio is rehabbing his shoulder quite nicely, and hopefully will be returning to PW this summer. Oh yeah, and Finn got another concussion. Somehow this guy passes his medicals, I don’t know how he does it. Back to you Skip.
(Skip chuckles a bit at the tenacity of Fin as a new box flies up next to his head, this one showing Caesar’s Palace.)
Sanders: Fin is indestructible I tell ya. Hopefully he’ll be ready to compete for the biggest show Phoenix puts on each year, Under the Coliseum Lights. In previous years Phoenix has staged their illustrious event in the Coliseum of Rome itself. This year we head back to Las Vegas as we take over Ceasar’s Palace for a grand night of wrestling action! This July 30th PW presents UTCL 6, live on I Pay Per View via Dailymotion. Don’t miss out on what should be an epic show! All titles are on the line, and there’s already several rumors surrounding it.
(That white question mark returns, this time shadowing over Caesar’s Palace.)
Sanders: One of the big rumors I can share with you early on is a former PW champion wants to come out of retirement for one last match. They have reportedly already inked a deal, so we’ll just have to wait to see what PW great returns to grace us with their presence.
(The box next to his head disappears, and Sanders smiles to close out the show.)
Sanders: That wraps up our rumors and reports for today. Thank you for joining us here on the website, and don’t forget to tell everyone you know we’re on Dailymotion now! Goodnight!
(He gives a quick wave to the internet audience before walking off the set. Fade to a ‘Phoenix Wrestling 2017’ logo, then black.)
Sanders: What’s up Phoenix fans? Glad you took the time out to check out the Phoenix News Report special for the month of June.
