“You won.”
Aurora felt her amazing green eyes narrow slightly, but not out of annoyance - it was pure exhaustion after the ordeal that she and Molly Reid had gone through together. There had even been a moment, that she heard his voice, and for the second time this year she pulled out the Ruger Special. She was in the prime of her career despite what she’d told… was it Artemis Kaiser? There was pounding in her temples that was partially dehydration and partially the Molly Kick that Reid had gained her first fall with… add to that the lactic acid in her muscles her body was a symphony of aches. Her voice was low, but no longer that once signature breathy whisper. She got a flavored water and sipped at it, knowing better than to chug it right away.
“I did. I almost didn’t, we almost tied. I’m so proud of us though, no one does what we did. Most people don’t care to try, I guess.” A pause, as she drank more of the flavored water. “Will you let him go?”
“I don’t hold his contract. You know that. You, above all, know that.”
“Someone will tell me. Danny…” A pause as she finished her water and then headed to shower before she headed to the hotel to pass out face down on her bed. “...it would be better, if it was you.”

Elisabeta came right through the wall, her form far more distinct than it usually was but fat tears ran down her usually impassive face. She had died in horrible fashion as a young girl, a kitchen maid perhaps in Victorian England. Once upon a time, she had woken Aurora up from a dead sleep when a man under command from Mark Mease came to shoot her in the head to prevent her from helping Legacy. She’d woken her, and told her that the tall pale man would protect her. That he liked her, she shouldn’t ever worry.
She stayed with her ever since, at first one of many lost children who attached themselves to Aurora. Scared and alone, she did everything she could to help them let go. To be ready to pass over into what waited beyond, so they wouldn’t be trapped or in pain anymore. Elisabeta knew how much she loved each of them, and knew what price she’d paid to keep doing this. Eventually all of the ones who had been with her when Elisabeta joined them were gone, faded out or passed on. She was all that was left and she was strong enough to go, but much like the spirit of Rich Ruger, she stayed and did her best to keep watch over the woman she looked upon as Mother. Her voice was piteous, frail and faint but it was loud enough that even someone that had no gift to hear spirits would have heard something. She cried out to the Pale Man, the only person she could ever have felt was a father to her. Please Papa, please come. Mama won’t open her eyes. Mama won’t wake up!
His big hand tightened on the opened bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue, before bringing it to his lips. His emerald green eyes burned in the darkness of his office and his voice was rough. “Keep your sisters safe, Elisabeta. I’ll go and see.”
She rushed back through the wall to the nursery, Aubrey was back with the children since Aurora had deemed it … less tense. She missed then, the way the man stood up and his appearance shifted from the seven foot tall monster of a man that Aurora Jansen had married, loved, even borne a child for - to someone else entirely.
“Well well, maybe you’ve decided after all, Sissy.”
He dropped the bottle into the trash as he left the study.
